Vaughn set to bring to life Davey and Goliath characters

CHICAGO -- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Thowback Films with Vince Vaughn have entered into a new agreement this summer in an effort to bring "Davey and Goliath" to a new generation of children with a live-action version of this classic children's television show.

Davey and Goliath is a classic stop-motion animated television series starring Davey Hansen and his talking dog, Goliath. Aired on commercial television in the 1960s and 1970s, Davey and Goliath is a property of the ECLA. The church's mission with Davey and Goliath is to bring "moral and religious faith-based values to a new generation of children in lively and engaging ways." What better way to achieve this than to bring Vince Vaughn into the role of a slightly older, much taller Davey? It's not known who else will sign on to the project, but Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller have expressed interest in appearing in some capacity.

We are excited that Davey and Goliath's first major motion picture agreement is with such a phenomenal actor as Vince Vaughn," said Jack Smithers, Internal Functionality Engineer at their headquarters.

"ECLA and Throwback Films will be wonderful partners, and with their commitment to quality, family-friendly content, they share my vision and will play a significant role in the current re-launch plans for the ECLA's Davey and Goliath property," said Vaughn. Earlier this year the ECLA and Animation Content entered into an agreement to garner more visibility for Davey and Goliath and help secure its return to television.

"We are delighted with this development in conjunction with several other initiatives that are currently under way for the re-release of the classic animated episodes, and the release of the new modern-day Davey and Goliath holiday special, 'Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas.' These important developments, along with other licensing and merchandising efforts, will help ensure that children and families today have the opportunity to be exposed to these lovable characters and timeless value-based messages," Vaughn said. Vince's only resistance to signing on to the project was that Davey always wore red plaid shirts, while Vince's preference is blue.

Ok, at first I was all, what?! I remembered he was involved with Speed Racer in the beginning, so anything's possible.

And haha on the plaid part. We know Vince looves his plaid.

Nice job Christine! I will admit I fell for it hook, line and sinker. (but I read it on April 2, can I use that as an excuse?) I found myself thinking "Man, that whole firing your agent thing must of been like Tom Cruise firing his publicist".

Ah! I haven't visited this site in a long time Christine...but I spotted this April Fool's Day joke right away!

If the date wasn't posted right at the top I probably would have bought it, but I've learned to be very leery of internet posts on 4/1.

Even so, the plaid-shirted guys on the barstools are awesome!
