Vince Vaughn, the US actor dating former Friends star Jennifer Aniston, is to sue two UK newspapers.
He is taking legal action against the Sun, Daily Mirror and New York Post after they said he kissed a "mystery woman" at a London charity event.
The papers reported that Mr Vaughn and Ms Aniston had broken up days before.
The couple say they remain together. Mr Vaughn is due to argue that the articles falsely suggested he had been unfaithful to Ms Aniston.
Misleading
The Sun and Daily Mirror articles were accompanied by a photograph, which Mr Vaughn will argue was seriously misleading.
He will argue that the suggestion he was involved in a passionate embrace and kiss was false, said a statement from the London lawyers Schillings, who are representing the actor.
The alleged incident took place at the Old Vic theatre earlier this month.
Mr Vaughn and Ms Aniston reportedly started dating during the filming of their recent romantic comedy, The Break-Up.
Posted by Christine at October 16, 2006 8:34 AMIt's about dang time he did something! They were saying some pretty mean things about Vince!!!
Posted at: October 16, 2006 12:52 PMGuess that means he's finally gone Hollywood on us! He and Jen refuse to confirm they're a couple for their fans (who are genuinely happy for them) but will confirm it in a courtroom when there's money at stake. Suing over a kiss? Pathetic!
Posted at: October 16, 2006 2:37 PMI have to disagree. First of all, he doesn't owe anyone (especially the fans) an explanation about his personal life. He has every right to keep his life private. Why do we need to know about that stuff, anyway? And secondly, I'm happy he's suing. I'm tired of the tabloids making up stories to sell magazines. When I saw that photo of him hugging that woman, I knew it wasn't anything serious. I've met Vince a couple of times and observed him meeting and greeting business associates and friends. He is a very affectionate guy and hugs and kisses lots of people. So hell yeah, go for it, Vince! Sue em and maybe they'll leave you and Jen alone for awhile.
Posted at: October 16, 2006 2:51 PMSuing is never gonna stop the tabloids printing lies. Tabloids are made up of lies! I just think that a story about a full-blown sex scandal may be worth suing over but a kiss is nothing.
Seems odd to me that someone who has wanted to keep his and Aniston's relationship so private (which, as you rightly say, is their business) will drag it throught the courts for the sake of a story about a kiss that most people will have forgotten about by the time it comes to trial!
As Christine said, he owes his fans nothing. Absolutely nothing. We pay to see, rent and/or buy his movies and he entertains us and it ends right there. His personal life is none of our business. He can date, kiss, hug or do whatever with whoever but its none of our business.
If I were him, I'd sue for slander also. It was completely untrue.
Coming from a reeeeeeeally small American town, I don't blame him whatsoever.
Posted at: October 16, 2006 3:32 PMI think that when any celeb. sues I think that it hslps to keep the tabs and gossip bloggers in check a little bit and reminds them that they are not supposed to cross over certain lines. It shows that celebs. are paying attention and won't always be steamrolled over. If Cameron Diaz or VV or JA or any of them sue, it helps all of them.
Posted at: October 16, 2006 3:53 PMAs much as I love Vince it is just like what was he doing he was obviously kissing her. And I don't see why he is being unfaithful i thought that according to them they weren't dating.
Posted at: October 16, 2006 5:36 PMyeah, why deny that they are an item and then go and sue over a kiss with someone else? I love youuu VV but your not making any sense!
Posted at: October 17, 2006 8:45 AMHe's obvious not kissing the woman. This is pretty clear. She's the producer of the show, and that definetelly was not a kiss on her mouth.
Posted at: October 17, 2006 10:31 AMI think he must have gottin' in some deep $%#@ for all that or he wouldn't be wanting 2 sue.
Posted at: October 17, 2006 10:34 AMWow - how wierd. I was just over looking at female first in a blog about Vince and someone a little bit ago wrote in their as a "guest" and said almost my exact words from my comment above from yesterday and then added three lines to the end of it. I was reading it and all of a sudden I saw it was my words (steamrolled and Cameron Diaz and all). Plagerism at work.
Posted at: October 18, 2006 12:18 AMI think that he was kissing that woman in London on the cheek. But he is threatening to sue the tabloids b/c he's a good boyfriend and wants to defend Jennifer Aniston. David Arquette did on the radio and VV didn't want to be left out. He is such a sweetheart. I hope Jen realizes it.
Posted at: October 18, 2006 10:17 AMJust wanna add my two bits -
Personally I don't care who Vince dates/makes out with/cheats on etc. I just love his work but it does really annoy me when people say that celebs don't owe their fans anything, because, in all honesty, they owe them EVERYTHING.
That's not to say that they have to tell them all the personal details of their lives (For the record I don't believe they do) but I think a huge amount of stars think they are successful for their talent - they're not. They are successful because people pay to see their movies or buy their CDs (or whatever).
Half of the celebs that whine about being in these rags (which is what they are IMO) would have sold their soul to get in them a few years previously. The majority of celebs actually pay people to make sure they get in the tabs regularly - whether they admit to this or not! Not just getting at VV here cause he is actually one of the more normal famous peeps but his attitude is typical of arrogant celebs who only want to hear the good publicity and sue when things don't go their way.
oh brother leave them alone - the tabloids know how to ruin people's lives
Posted at: October 18, 2006 4:10 PMIt didn't just affect him, it also affected the
producer and Jennifer. They made it sound like
he was doing something really serious instead of
a kiss on the cheek. I don't think the magazines
should be able to make up whatever they want and
get by with it. I admire him for standing up to
them. He doesn't go out looking for attention
and he has never said anything before but think
he felt they just shouldn't get by with it. They
crossed a line and deserve to get called on the
carpet for it.

Posted at: October 20, 2006 7:17 AMWe think that the reporters told a real lie about Vince who's unfaithful to Jennifer.
Posted at: October 20, 2006 1:45 PMThe allegations that he is unfaithful could cause him to lose his relationship with Ms. Aniston. It could also cause him to lose future acting opportunities, and hence, revenue, if his public image were to be smeared from this point on. I am glad he is defending himself before things get really out of control. The media loves to feed on stereotypes, especially negative ones. He needs to nip things in the bud now, before he finds this picture on every magazine cover, and the stereotype of 'womanizer' plastered seemlessly woven into every article, interview and acgting contract. Think about it for a minute....the perception the media oortrays of Michael Jackson as a pedophile, whether it is a true portrayal or not, is damaging to any future prospects he has as an artist. The same could be true for Vince. His future prospects as an actor could be damaged by the medias portrayal of him as a lecher or womanizer. For the sake of his future, he has to care enough to put a stop to it, and usually the only effective way to do this is to sue the perpetrators. I am certain he isn't suing them because he needs the money.
Posted at: October 20, 2006 3:49 PMGrace, thank YOU! Finally someone speaks the truth. Entertainers are a commodity, bought and paid for like any other product or service. As for the tabloids or Oprah or this website, this is called marketing (good, bad, and ugly). Folks, that's Hollywood.
I long for the days when Vince Vaughn was just a good actor and not another damn celebrity.
