My review of 'The Break-Up'

I've seen 'The Break-Up' twice now and absolutely loved it. You're probably thinking, of course she loved it. She has a Vince Vaughn website and 'The Break-Up' is Vince Vaughn's baby. He came up with the story and produced and starred in it. Hello?!? What's not to love?

Yes, all of the above is true, but there is so much more to my appreciation of the film than just the Vince Vaughn Factor. Don't go into this movie expecting to see the high comedy of Wedding Crashers. But don't expect a cutesy-phony romantic comedy, either. 'The Break-Up' is an original, true-to-life story of the falling-apart of a relationship and the things real people feel, say and do during this painful process. But that doesn't mean this movie is a downer. The bittersweet reality of this unconventional story is peppered with lots of great belly-laugh moments.

Vince and Jennifer are wonderful in their roles and the supporting cast is outstanding, with the most memorable performances by Jon Favreau and Vincent D'Onofrio.

If you haven't seen 'The Break-Up' yet, you're missing out on what may be one of the most truthful anti-romantic stories ever told.

I completely agree. The Break-Up was by far one of the greatest movies of the year.

Amen sister! I couldn't agree more! Sure, I'm a biased as the next cat on this site, but I really loved it regardless! And have been plugging it to my friends like CRAZY!

I LOVED a nervous D'Onofrio. Can he be any cuter?! And Favs. No words. The man is amazing!

I agree. I liked it because it wasn't a typical movie.

This was our take on the movie -- another "fan" review not a "movie reviewer" review.

Wow, all the more that I can't wait to see the film! It opens in Manila in August, two freaking months more!!! My niece in CA said that she loved and hated it...loved it for the reasons you also stated but hated it because it struck too many familiar chords in her life! She said it was so realistic yet funny. While many people in the theater are laughing she said she can't help but tear because she felt that Brooke was speaking for her and what she felt. I'm so excited about this! :)

My impression is that the "reality" thing hits women harder than men, especially since Aniston's character initiates the break up. Very interesting perspective, J.

I most deffiently agree with you. I LOVED the Break-Up. Vince Vaughn is a genius

i thought the movie was terrible. i went into it thinking it was going to be a romantic comedy, which is what the trailer portrayed it to be. it had some funny parts but for the most part, it was dry and i felt like i was watching my dad and step mom fighting on the big screen. jennifer aniston is a subpar actress to begin with, this movie only furthered my belief that she is one of the most blah actresses in hollywood. out of all vinces' movies, this would probably rank on the very bottom, in my humble opinion.

I Can't Belive That Vince's Dad Was In The Movie!

Is it possible to enjoy this movie if you never broke up with anyone? Thanks.

I saw the movie ...

I HATED it!

Unfortunately, I am the living embodyment of the ass**** that Mr. Vaughn plays in the movie ... It was like some kind of horrible look at my own horrible life. That character is so much like me it's terrifying.

So much for escapism. (P.S. I bought my wife flowers immediately afterwards ... I'm trying not to be such a shmuck.)

Hey, I read a movie critique that said the film was disappointing because it didn't show the actual relationship between the two main characters (the few bits we get to see is done through photographs during the opening credits) but only the separation. If memory serves, the movie is called "The Break-up" and not "The Relationship"!!! Personally, I liked the movie but I can see why some moviegoers might not have enjoyed it, especially if they were expecting a romantic comedy!

I loved the movie! I went to see it twice and can not wait for it to come out on video. I related to the arguement over the dishes. Who has not had that arguement before? I love Jennifer Aniston, I thought she was great.
