VINCE VAUGHN asked MR + MRS SMITH director DOUG LIMAN to leave his name off the credits of the film - because he wanted to surprise fans.
But then Liman, who previously directed Vaughn in cult comedy SWINGERS, was so impressed with the funnyman's cameo he added it to the trailer for the film.
Vaughn shot his scenes for the movie, which raced to the top of the box office in America at the weekend (12JUN05), in four days.
Upset Vaughn says, "Doug Liman asked me to come do a cameo and I said, 'Sure.' It became a little bit bigger than what was intended and I don't take any billing in the movie because I wanted it to be kind of a surprise because it's not my movie.
"Then I ended up in the trailer, which I was kind of disappointed about only because I wanted it to be a surprise for people to not know I was in the movie."
But he's glad he agreed to sign up to make the movie: "I had a blast and I had fun working on it."
*This source, contactmusic.com has released other not-so-newsworthy (i.e., old) stuff in the past. Has anyone heard this before? Old news?
Posted by Christine at June 13, 2005 9:34 PMI saw that News Alert Christine. For once I think Contact Music came up with something original. At least, this is a comment that I have not read before anywhere. They still don't quote their sources for information, but I won't complain because this one actually makes sense AND appears to be current information, not months or years old.
Posted at: June 14, 2005 12:05 AMI agree! But since we know how ligit they are, let's just hope it is real! That would explain a lot of things! No show at premier and no name in credits???
He is such a stand up guy!
Posted at: June 14, 2005 3:44 AMI did wonder why his name wasn't on the credits because I was watching the screen at the cinema on my way out and didn't see his name.
Posted at: June 14, 2005 9:31 AMSo Jean, you probably read the other contactmusic.com article that was published today, right? Where have we read this before? Damn, I wish they'd name their sources. I know I've read an article very similar to that one, but I can't find it. And is his character in Thumbsucker disabled?? I thought he was the guidance counselor, but I don't remember reading that he was disabled. (Article says, "The actor plays a disabled man in new black comedy THUMBSUCKER, and fears the character he plays could really have been him if his dad had taken doctors' advice.") Wasn't he referring to Lou Taylor Pucci's character?
Can anyone clarify this before I post the article?
Posted at: June 14, 2005 11:47 AMI've been thinking the same thing all day Christine. I've def. read a similar article about Thumbsucker, but I too thought Vince was reffering to Pucci when he talked about a character being "doped up."
I can't seem to find the article now though...
Posted at: June 14, 2005 1:56 PMoooh, found it! I think..or another similar one. I'm pretty sure it's the one I read before.
